Still have questions?

How much does an electrician cost in Derby?

It depends on the job, but we publish rough prices so you're not left guessing: full rewires from £3,500 plus VAT, a consumer unit upgrade from £650 plus VAT, an EICR on a 2 to 3-bed house £170 plus VAT, and an extra double socket from £80 plus VAT. Quotes are free and in writing.

Do you give free quotes?

Yes. You get a written quote up front, with honest, transparent pricing.

Are you registered and insured?

Yes. JJS Electrical Solutions Ltd is NAPIT registered (member 73083) and listed on the government-endorsed TrustMark register. We're insured with Hiscox, with £5m public liability and £250,000 professional indemnity cover. All work is certified to BS 7671.

NAPIT or NICEIC: which should I look for?

Either. NAPIT and NICEIC are both government-approved competent person schemes, so a member of either can certify their own work under Part P and issue your Building Regulations certificate. We're NAPIT registered, so you'll find us on NAPIT's member search and the Electrical Competent Person Register rather than NICEIC's.

Will I get certificates for the work?

Yes. You get the relevant certificate and Part P notification as standard, so you've got the paperwork when you sell or let.

How do I know an electrician is properly qualified?

Check they're registered with a recognised scheme like NAPIT and that they certify work to BS 7671, the wiring regulations. A registered electrician can self-certify domestic work under Part P and issue the certificate directly. JJS is NAPIT registered and TrustMark endorsed.

Are you a local Derby electrician?

Yes. We're based in Chaddesden and cover the city and the wider Derbyshire area. You'll deal with the same local team from quote to certificate, not a call centre.

Which areas do you cover?

Derby and across Derbyshire, including Allestree, Mickleover, Chaddesden, Spondon and the surrounding areas. We also work in Nottingham, Leicester and the areas around them. See Areas we cover for the full list.

How quickly can you come out?

Our normal hours are 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. For faults, we can often book a same-day appointment during normal hours, subject to availability. For everything else, we'll book you in at the earliest slot we've got and give you a realistic date, not an optimistic one we then miss.

Do you work on homes and businesses?

Both. Domestic and commercial, from a single socket to a full commercial fit-out.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

For fault finding and repairs, yes: £70 plus VAT for the call-out, then £50 plus VAT an hour. Visits to quote for other jobs are free, and you get a written quote.

Do you do emergency call-outs?

For existing customers, yes. Outside our normal hours of 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, we charge 1.5 times our standard rates from 6pm to midnight and from 6am to 8am, and 3 times from midnight to 6am. If there's fire or smoke, get out and call 999. If your whole street has no power, call 105, the free power cut line.

How long have you been going?

Josh began his electrical career at 16, completing an apprenticeship and gaining extensive industry experience. After the COVID-19 pandemic he set up on his own as Joshy Electrical Contractors. The business grew and evolved into JJS Electrical Solutions Ltd, and today it covers Derby, Nottingham, Leicester and the surrounding areas.
