Charging at home is cheaper and far more convenient than relying on public chargers. We fit home EV chargers across Derby and Derbyshire on a dedicated circuit, with the right protection, and sign the work off properly. Here's what's involved, what it costs, and how to tell your home is ready.

What an EV charger installation involves

We fit your charge point on a dedicated circuit run from your consumer unit, with its own protection built in. Before we quote, we survey the job: the distance and route from your board to where you park, your incoming supply, and whether your consumer unit can take the new circuit or needs upgrading first. That survey is what stops a cheap install turning into an expensive problem later.

Most homes take a 7kW charger, the standard for overnight charging. We fit tethered units, with the cable attached, or untethered, where you use your own cable, and we'll talk you through which suits your car and parking. Every charger we install meets the smart charging regulations, so you can schedule and manage it from an app. Where the job needs sign-off from your network operator, the DNO, we handle that for you.

Who it's for

Anyone with off-street parking who's bought, or is about to buy, an electric or plug-in hybrid car and wants to charge at home. Landlords fitting charging for tenants, and homeowners future-proofing a property, are well covered too.

EV charger installation across Derby and Derbyshire

We install EV chargers right across the area, from Oakwood, Spondon and Chaddesden to Mickleover, Littleover, Allestree and Chellaston, and out into the wider Derbyshire villages. Wherever you are, the standard's the same: surveyed properly, fitted safely, certified in full.

Flick’s tip

Before you choose a charger, measure from your fuse box to where you park. That distance moves the price more than anything else.

Good questions

How much does an EV charger installation cost in Derby?

Fitting a charger you've already bought typically costs £450 plus VAT, depending on what the installation needs. If you'd like us to supply the charger as well, we quote the charger and fitting together after the survey. What moves the price: the route from your consumer unit to the parking spot, whether your board needs upgrading, surface-mounted versus buried cable, and the unit you choose. The figure on your written quote is the figure you pay.

Which chargers do you fit?

We install all the major brands. Our preferred makes are Hypervolt, Ohme and Sync Energy. We'll help you choose based on your car, your tariff and whether you have, or plan to have, solar panels.

Can I get a grant?

There are government grants for some people, mainly renters and flat owners with private off-street parking. Most homeowners with a driveway don't qualify. The grant has to be claimed by an OZEV-approved installer, and we're not OZEV-approved at the moment, so we can't claim it for you. If you think you qualify, check GOV.UK and use an approved installer to get the discount.

Do I need my consumer unit upgraded first?

Sometimes. An older or full board may not safely take a new high-demand circuit. We check this at the survey and tell you up front, so there are no surprises mid-install. If an upgrade is needed, we can do both together and certify the lot.

How fast will a home charger charge my car?

A 7kW home charger adds roughly 25 to 30 miles of range per hour for most cars, so a typical overnight charge fills the battery comfortably. Your car's own maximum AC charge rate is the limit, not the charger.

I spoke to somebody on the phone and they were great at providing me with information and really helpful. I then booked in with them the next day to fix a tumble dryer plug and they came out within 4 hours and were extremely fast and very friendly. Thankyou for all your help. Great price too

Josh and his team have done a brilliant job installing electrics into our summer house and we are really pleased with their work. The work was done to an extremely high standard and they worked really hard all day in sweltering heat. They were also very professional. We would 100% recommend them.

Josh has been world class from the start. Clear communication, amazing worth ethic to stay on schedule (lads even working on Saturday), trustworthy, reliable, and very detailed. He was happy to respond rapidly to specific technical requests and last minute changes in spec. His flexibility is what set's him apart for me. We had multiple phases to the job, and he was happy to work along with my schedule, and honour prices as agreed. Whenever I have any electrical questions, I send for Josh. Thanks so much for the great work guys!

Josh and James from JJS Electrical Solutions did a full rewire of our house and we honestly couldn’t fault them. They were friendly, easy to deal with, and explained everything clearly along the way. They turned up when they said they would, worked really hard, and the standard of their work was spot on. Even with a big job like a full rewire, they kept disruption to a minimum and always cleaned up after themselves. Really happy with the end result and would definitely recommend Josh and James to anyone needing electrical work done.
