When the lights keep tripping, a socket stops working or something smells hot, you want someone who will find the real cause, not just reset the switch and leave. We trace electrical faults across Derby and Derbyshire with proper test equipment, tell you what's wrong in plain English, and put it right.

What we fix

Tripping circuits and RCDs, sockets and lights that have stopped working, flickering or dimming lights, scorched or warm sockets and switches, outside lights and sockets, faulty smoke alarms, and anything that has stopped working after DIY. If the fault shows the installation is in poor shape overall, we'll tell you honestly, and suggest an EICR rather than patching it repeatedly.

Fault finding across Derby and Derbyshire

Based in Chaddesden, we cover the whole city and the surrounding towns and villages, including Spondon, Oakwood, Alvaston and Mickleover.

Flick’s tip

Before you call, note what was switched on when it tripped and which switch on the fuse box went down. It helps us find the fault faster.

Good questions

Lights or power keep tripping?

A switch that keeps tripping is your fuse box doing its job: it has detected a problem and cut the power. Common causes are a faulty appliance, water getting into an outside light or socket, a damaged cable, or an overloaded circuit. Try this first: unplug everything on that circuit and push the switch back up. If it stays up, plug things back in one at a time to find the culprit. If it trips straight away with everything unplugged, or won't stay up, leave it off and get in touch.

When is it urgent?

Burning smells, smoke, sparks, scorch marks or a socket too hot to touch: switch off the main switch on your fuse box if it's safe to reach, don't touch the damaged fitting, and call us. If there's fire or smoke, get out and call 999. If your whole street is without power, it's a power cut: call 105.

Our normal hours are 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Emergency call-outs outside those hours are for existing customers only. Out-of-hours work is charged at 1.5 times our standard rates from 6pm to midnight and from 6am to 8am, and 3 times from midnight to 6am.

How much does fault finding cost?

Fault finding is £70 plus VAT for the call-out, then £50 plus VAT an hour. We can often book a same-day appointment during normal hours, subject to availability. Once we've found the fault, you get a price for the repair before we do it.

I spoke to somebody on the phone and they were great at providing me with information and really helpful. I then booked in with them the next day to fix a tumble dryer plug and they came out within 4 hours and were extremely fast and very friendly. Thankyou for all your help. Great price too

Josh and his team have done a brilliant job installing electrics into our summer house and we are really pleased with their work. The work was done to an extremely high standard and they worked really hard all day in sweltering heat. They were also very professional. We would 100% recommend them.

Josh has been world class from the start. Clear communication, amazing worth ethic to stay on schedule (lads even working on Saturday), trustworthy, reliable, and very detailed. He was happy to respond rapidly to specific technical requests and last minute changes in spec. His flexibility is what set's him apart for me. We had multiple phases to the job, and he was happy to work along with my schedule, and honour prices as agreed. Whenever I have any electrical questions, I send for Josh. Thanks so much for the great work guys!

Josh and James from JJS Electrical Solutions did a full rewire of our house and we honestly couldn’t fault them. They were friendly, easy to deal with, and explained everything clearly along the way. They turned up when they said they would, worked really hard, and the standard of their work was spot on. Even with a big job like a full rewire, they kept disruption to a minimum and always cleaned up after themselves. Really happy with the end result and would definitely recommend Josh and James to anyone needing electrical work done.

Josh installed a new consumer unit and my EV charger. He turned up on time, explained everything clearly and worked neatly. The wiring is tidy, the charger works perfectly and he issued all certificates promptly. Fair price and great communication throughout and I highly recommend him.
