If your wiring is showing its age, a full rewire replaces it end to end and certifies the lot, so your home is safe, compliant and ready for modern demands. We rewire houses and flats across Derby and Derbyshire. Here's what's involved, what it costs, and how to tell yours is due.

What a full rewire involves

A full rewire replaces all the cabling, sockets, switches and the consumer unit throughout your property, then certifies the installation. It runs in two stages. First fix is the cabling, run once floorboards are up and walls are chased. Second fix is fitting the sockets, switches, light fittings and the new consumer unit, then testing every circuit. We tidy as we go, so you're not left with a building site. It's disruptive work and we'll be straight with you about that, planning it around you room by room where we can.

Who it's for

Homeowners in older properties where the wiring is past its best, anyone who's had a rewire flagged on a survey or EICR, landlords bringing a property up to standard, and people renovating who want it done once and done right.

Full rewires across Derby and Derbyshire

We rewire right across the area, from Allestree, Mickleover and Littleover to Chaddesden, Spondon and Chellaston, and out into the wider Derbyshire villages. Wherever you are, the standard's the same: wired to BS 7671, tested, and certified in full.

Flick’s tip

Planning to decorate? Book the rewire first. New cables go into the walls, so doing it after means decorating twice.

Good questions

How much does a full rewire cost in Derby?

Most Derby electricians won't put a price near their website. We will, because a rough figure up front saves everyone time. Full rewires start from £3,500 plus VAT. Larger or more complex properties cost more. What moves the price: the age and layout of the property, the number of circuits and accessories, whether floors are solid or boarded, access, and anything you add while the walls are open.

What's included in the price?

New cabling throughout, new sockets, switches and light points, a new consumer unit with RCD or RCBO protection, earthing and bonding to your gas and water pipes, full testing, the Electrical Installation Certificate and your Building Regulations certificate. Every rewire includes the relevant testing and certification. Plastering and making good aren't included as standard and are charged separately. Mains-wired smoke alarms aren't included as standard either, but we can add them to your quote. Waste is taken away and we tidy at the end of every day.

How do I know my house needs rewiring?

Frequent tripping, scorch marks around sockets, a fuse box with rewireable fuses, no RCD protection, or rubber, lead or fabric-insulated cabling are all signs. A condition report (EICR) will tell you for certain, and we can carry one out before you commit to anything.

How long does a rewire take?

A typical three-bed takes roughly a week, though it depends on the property and whether you're living in it while we work. We give you a realistic timeline with the quote, not an optimistic one we then overrun.

Do I need to move out during a rewire?

Not always, but it helps. For an occupied home we work room by room and keep essential power on where we can. For an empty property we're in and out faster. We'll tell you honestly which makes sense for your job.

I spoke to somebody on the phone and they were great at providing me with information and really helpful. I then booked in with them the next day to fix a tumble dryer plug and they came out within 4 hours and were extremely fast and very friendly. Thankyou for all your help. Great price too

Josh and his team have done a brilliant job installing electrics into our summer house and we are really pleased with their work. The work was done to an extremely high standard and they worked really hard all day in sweltering heat. They were also very professional. We would 100% recommend them.

Josh has been world class from the start. Clear communication, amazing worth ethic to stay on schedule (lads even working on Saturday), trustworthy, reliable, and very detailed. He was happy to respond rapidly to specific technical requests and last minute changes in spec. His flexibility is what set's him apart for me. We had multiple phases to the job, and he was happy to work along with my schedule, and honour prices as agreed. Whenever I have any electrical questions, I send for Josh. Thanks so much for the great work guys!

Josh and James from JJS Electrical Solutions did a full rewire of our house and we honestly couldn’t fault them. They were friendly, easy to deal with, and explained everything clearly along the way. They turned up when they said they would, worked really hard, and the standard of their work was spot on. Even with a big job like a full rewire, they kept disruption to a minimum and always cleaned up after themselves. Really happy with the end result and would definitely recommend Josh and James to anyone needing electrical work done.

Josh installed a new consumer unit and my EV charger. He turned up on time, explained everything clearly and worked neatly. The wiring is tidy, the charger works perfectly and he issued all certificates promptly. Fair price and great communication throughout and I highly recommend him.
