Allenton grew up around the junction of Osmaston Road and Chellaston Road, with its parade of local shops at the centre. Much of the housing dates from between the wars and the 1950s: solid brick semis and terraces that have usually been rewired at least once, often in stages. That patchwork is where problems tend to hide, so an inspection is a sensible first step before a new kitchen or bathroom goes in. We also put in outdoor sockets, security lighting and EV chargers for homes with off-road parking.

Homes in Allenton
Allenton takes its name from Isaac Allen, who built the first houses here in 1878. Most of what stands now came later. Derby's first council homes went up near the factory in Osmaston and Allenton after Rolls-Royce arrived in 1907, roads such as Harvey Road followed around 1930, and more council housing was added after the war. Many of these houses have been rewired once already. The board fitted at that time is often the weak point now, with cartridge fuses and no RCD on the sockets.

The jobs we do most here
Allenton jobs tend to be board replacements, EICRs for rented homes, and extra sockets in kitchens that were laid out decades ago.
Covering Allenton and nearby
We cover Allenton and the surrounding DE24 streets, including the roads towards Shelton Lock, Osmaston and Alvaston. From Chaddesden it is a straightforward run round the ring road. Where a fuse board is old or has been added to over the years, we explain what we find in plain terms before quoting.
Asked in Allenton
My Allenton house used to be council owned. Can I assume it has been rewired?
Not safely. Plenty of former council homes were rewired at some point, but the paperwork rarely passes to the next owner. An EICR shows what cable is in the walls, how old the board is and whether the sockets have RCD protection. Then you know what you have instead of guessing.
Can the fuse board be moved out of the front room cupboard in my Allenton semi?
Usually, yes. We can fit the new consumer unit in a better spot and run new tails to it, as long as it stays a sensible distance from the meter. The meter itself belongs to your supplier, so moving that is their job. We'll tell you what is possible before you book anything.
