Electrical work in Osmaston

  • DE24, DE23 postcodes
  • About 2 miles from our Chaddesden base
  • NAPIT registered, every job certified

Osmaston has a long industrial connection, with the Rolls-Royce works on Nightingale Road at its heart for much of the twentieth century. The housing reflects that, with tight Victorian and Edwardian terraces on the town side and a large council-built estate further out. A lot of these homes are now rented, and wiring that has been extended piecemeal is common. We carry out inspections, put right what they turn up and rewire where the old cable is past saving, all certified to the current wiring regulations.

Homes in Osmaston

Osmaston is largely inter-war housing, alongside older terraces. In 2003 the area had a Housing Improvement Zone aimed at older privately owned terraced houses, which brought 20 empty homes back into use and helped 93 families on low incomes with repairs. Osmaston Hall itself was pulled down in 1938 to make way for an industrial estate. In inter-war houses we often find a mix of wiring from different decades, an old metal-clad switch beside the board feeding a single circuit, and lighting circuits that have no earth wire.

Asked in Osmaston

I'm letting a house in Osmaston for the first time. What does the EICR involve?

We test every circuit, the board, the earthing and the bonding, and write up anything that falls short with a code. The report lasts up to 5 years. You give a copy to the tenant within 28 days of the inspection, and to the council within 7 days if they ask.

There is a separate metal switch box next to the fuse box in my Osmaston house. What is it?

Often an old main switch, or a fuse unit for a cooker or a heater that has since gone. Sometimes it still feeds something. We trace where it goes before touching it. If it is no longer needed, we take it out when we fit the new consumer unit.

I contacted Josh from a local magazine initially to put a new light in and then to have all my light switches replaced. Josh has been professional, polite, on time and respectful on both visits…

I spoke to somebody on the phone and they were great at providing me with information and really helpful. I then booked in with them the next day to fix a tumble dryer plug and they came out within 4 hours and were extremely fast and very friendly. Thankyou for all your help. Great price too

Josh and his team have done a brilliant job installing electrics into our summer house and we are really pleased with their work. The work was done to an extremely high standard and they worked really hard all day in sweltering heat. They were also very professional. We would 100% recommend them.

Josh has been world class from the start. Clear communication, amazing worth ethic to stay on schedule (lads even working on Saturday), trustworthy, reliable, and very detailed. He was happy to respond rapidly to specific technical requests and last minute changes in spec. His flexibility is what set's him apart for me. We had multiple phases to the job, and he was happy to work along with my schedule, and honour prices as agreed. Whenever I have any electrical questions, I send for Josh. Thanks so much for the great work guys!
