Sunnyhill grew along Stenson Road and Blagreaves Lane from the 1930s onwards, and its avenues are lined with bay-fronted semis and later post-war homes. Many have been extended, which often means new rooms hanging off an older circuit. We test what is there, recommend a new consumer unit or a rewire only where the results justify it, and fit EV chargers for homes with room on the drive. You receive the correct certificate for whatever work we carry out.

Homes in Sunnyhill
Sunnyhill was a small hamlet on Stenson Road until the 1930s, when significant building started. The Blue Pool pub opened in 1936. From then until the end of the century houses went up in stages on old farm, factory and military land. The officers' houses from a wartime prisoner-of-war camp survive as part of Staunton Avenue, and Bideford Drive was built in the 1960s where Sunny Hill House once stood. With houses from so many decades, the wiring varies a lot from street to street.
Sunnyhill in numbers
From the 2021 Census, for the 3,036 households in the streets around Sunnyhill.
- 53%of homes are detached (England: 23%). Bigger houses usually mean more circuits and longer cable runs, so a rewire or a new board takes a little more planning. Rewires
- 50%of households own their home outright (England: 33%). If you’ve lived somewhere for years and never had the wiring tested, an EICR tells you where it stands. Ours start at £150 plus VAT. EICRs and fuse boxes
- 44%of households have two or more cars or vans (England: 35%). Fitting a home charger you’ve bought yourself costs £450 plus VAT, and one well-placed charger can serve both sides of a drive. EV chargers
- 31%of homes have four or more bedrooms (England: 21%). Larger homes often outgrow their original board as kitchens, offices and garden rooms are added. Consumer unit upgrades

Covering Sunnyhill and nearby
We cover Sunnyhill, Blagreaves and the surrounding DE23 roads, plus Stenson Fields just to the south. If you are planning an extension or a loft conversion, it pays to have the existing circuits looked at early, so the electrics are part of the plan rather than a late surprise.
Asked in Sunnyhill
Our house on Staunton Avenue started life as part of the wartime camp. Can you check all the wiring before we renovate?
Yes. Houses that have been adapted over the years can have circuits from several decades side by side. An EICR tests each circuit and the board, so you know what can stay before the plasterer arrives. It's much cheaper to put right now than after decorating.
We're converting the loft in our Bideford Drive house. Does it need its own circuit?
Usually. A converted loft often needs lighting, sockets and sometimes a shower or heating, which is too much to hang off the existing upstairs circuits. We plan new circuits from the board, with RCD protection, and fit the cables before the walls are boarded.
