Electrical work in Littleover

  • DE23 postcodes
  • About 3 miles from our Chaddesden base
  • NAPIT registered, every job certified

Littleover runs from the old village around St Peter's Church out to estates built across most of the last century. That spread shows up in the work. In the older houses it is board changes, EICRs and the odd full rewire. On the newer streets it is more often a charger on the drive, extra sockets or a supply to a garden room. We look at your installation first, explain what we find in plain terms and give you a written price before any work starts.

Homes in Littleover

Littleover's old village sits around St Peter's Church, The Hollow and Church Street, where the thatched Littleover Cottage and the White House survive. Suburban building was well under way by the early 1930s, and housing kept spreading for decades after. More recent homes include the development on the site of the Crest Hotel. A house built in the 1930s will have had rubber cable first, and most have been rewired since. That later wiring is often still sound, but the board fitted with it rarely has the RCD protection expected now.

Littleover in numbers

From the 2021 Census, for the 2,590 households in the streets around Littleover.

  • 49%of homes are detached (England: 23%). Bigger houses usually mean more circuits and longer cable runs, so a rewire or a new board takes a little more planning. Rewires
  • 44%of households own their home outright (England: 33%). If you’ve lived somewhere for years and never had the wiring tested, an EICR tells you where it stands. Ours start at £150 plus VAT. EICRs and fuse boxes
  • 48%of households have two or more cars or vans (England: 35%). Fitting a home charger you’ve bought yourself costs £450 plus VAT, and one well-placed charger can serve both sides of a drive. EV chargers
  • 43%of homes have four or more bedrooms (England: 21%). Larger homes often outgrow their original board as kitchens, offices and garden rooms are added. Consumer unit upgrades

Covering Littleover and nearby

We cover all of Littleover, including Heatherton and Sunnyhill, across DE23. In the older houses we test before recommending anything, because a second rewire is often not needed. On newer streets we check the spare ways in the board before pricing a charger or a garden room, so the quote matches the job.

Asked in Littleover

Is Littleover's old village a conservation area?

No. The old core around St Peter's Church is not one of Derby's conservation areas. Individual houses can still be listed, though, and listed building consent applies whatever the area. If you're not sure about your home, check the Historic England list before we plan any work on the outside.

Our Littleover house was rewired in the 1980s. Does it need doing again?

Probably not. PVC cable from the 1980s usually has plenty of life left. What tends to need changing is the board, which will often have no RCDs. We test the insulation on every circuit. If the readings are good, a new consumer unit brings it up to date without a rewire.
