Etwall is a village west of Derby with a historic core around St Helen's Church and the Sir John Port almshouses, and post-war and new housing around it. Each brings its own work. In the old village it is careful rewires and board changes, with cable routes planned around solid brick and old timber. In the newer houses it is more often an EV charger, outdoor lighting or a new circuit for a garden building. We look first and give you a written price.

Homes in Etwall

Etwall's conservation area, designated in 1975, is built around strong red brick, with early 18th-century brick cottages and older timber-frame-and-render buildings. The Sir John Port almshouses have late 17th-century gables. Wimpey built a lot of housing in the 1950s and 60s, and the biggest expansion since came from 2015 onwards on former John Port Trust farmland. The village also has some of the district's largest homes. A 1950s or 60s house may still have its first board, while the newest homes are well wired but often short of spare ways.

Asked in Etwall

Our Wimpey house in Etwall dates from the 1960s. Is the original wiring still in there?

It might be. PVC cable from the 1960s can still test well, while houses from the 1950s are more likely to have rubber cable, which should be replaced. An EICR tells you which you have and what condition it is in.

Can you add a hot tub supply to one of the newer Etwall houses?

Yes. A hot tub needs its own circuit, sized for the tub, with RCD protection and a weatherproof isolator near it. The cable is usually armoured and buried or clipped along a wall. We check the board and supply before quoting, as a hot tub is a big load.

I spoke to somebody on the phone and they were great at providing me with information and really helpful. I then booked in with them the next day to fix a tumble dryer plug and they came out within 4 hours and were extremely fast and very friendly. Thankyou for all your help. Great price too

Josh and his team have done a brilliant job installing electrics into our summer house and we are really pleased with their work. The work was done to an extremely high standard and they worked really hard all day in sweltering heat. They were also very professional. We would 100% recommend them.

Josh has been world class from the start. Clear communication, amazing worth ethic to stay on schedule (lads even working on Saturday), trustworthy, reliable, and very detailed. He was happy to respond rapidly to specific technical requests and last minute changes in spec. His flexibility is what set's him apart for me. We had multiple phases to the job, and he was happy to work along with my schedule, and honour prices as agreed. Whenever I have any electrical questions, I send for Josh. Thanks so much for the great work guys!

Josh and James from JJS Electrical Solutions did a full rewire of our house and we honestly couldn’t fault them. They were friendly, easy to deal with, and explained everything clearly along the way. They turned up when they said they would, worked really hard, and the standard of their work was spot on. Even with a big job like a full rewire, they kept disruption to a minimum and always cleaned up after themselves. Really happy with the end result and would definitely recommend Josh and James to anyone needing electrical work done.
