Mackworth is a large estate on the west side of Derby, most of it built in the 1950s. Homes from that period that have not been rewired since are well past the age where the wiring should be checked, which is why EICRs, consumer unit upgrades and rewires are our most common jobs in Mackworth. We also add circuits for new kitchens, electric showers and EV chargers as houses are modernised. We explain what we find in plain terms and put the price in writing before any work begins on your home.

Homes in Mackworth
Mackworth was Derby's largest post-war council estate, about 3,000 homes. The first houses on Enfield Road were lived in by 1951 and the Prince Charles Avenue shops opened in 1959. Most roads take their names from places in London, and the streets were curved on purpose to stop through traffic. There are small bungalows built for older residents too. Many homes are now privately owned, though a lot remain social housing. Houses from the 1950s were often wired with few sockets per room, and some still have that original layout.

Covering Mackworth and nearby
We cover the Mackworth estate and the DE22 postcode, plus Markeaton and the streets off Kingsway. If you are a landlord with more than one property on the estate, we can inspect them in a single visit.
Asked in Mackworth
My parents live in a Mackworth bungalow. Can you raise the sockets so they don't have to bend?
Yes. We can move sockets higher up the wall, usually around waist height, and add switches by the bed or chair. It is a common change for older people and makes daily life easier. All new points get RCD protection and a certificate.
Our Mackworth house only has 1 socket in each bedroom. Is adding more a big job?
Not usually. Upstairs we can often run new sockets from the existing ring through the floor void, with little damage to the walls. If the ring is already doing a lot, or tests badly, we would add a new circuit instead. We check before we quote.
