Electrical work in Borrowash

  • DE72 postcodes
  • About 3 miles from our Chaddesden base
  • NAPIT registered, every job certified

Borrowash sits on the A6005 between Derby and Long Eaton, and grew from a small village in the late 1800s into the larger half of Ockbrook parish. The work here is a steady mix. Older boards get replaced, rented homes get their EICRs, and rewires happen where testing says the cable has had its day. We also fit EV chargers and add circuits for new kitchens, showers and extensions. Every job is priced in writing first.

Homes in Borrowash

Borrowash was the second village in Ockbrook parish and only started to grow in the late 1800s. It is now the larger of the two. The Derby Canal reached it in 1796 and was abandoned by the 1960s, though Ulliker's Bridge from 1795 survives. St Stephen's Church dates from 1899, and older houses include Ivy House and Rock House on the listed buildings register. Most homes here came later, through the 20th century. Bungalows are easier to work on than most houses, as cables can run through the loft to reach almost every room.

  • 44%of households own their home outright (England: 33%). If you’ve lived somewhere for years and never had the wiring tested, an EICR tells you where it stands. Ours start at £150 plus VAT. EICRs and fuse boxes
  • 45%of households have two or more cars or vans (England: 35%). Fitting a home charger you’ve bought yourself costs £450 plus VAT, and one well-placed charger can serve both sides of a drive. EV chargers

Borrowash keeps us busy with fuse board replacements and EICRs, the odd rewire, and EV chargers.

Covering Borrowash and nearby

We cover Borrowash and the DE72 villages around it, including Ockbrook and Draycott. Bungalows here often have wiring that runs through the loft, which makes a board change or new circuits quicker and tidier than in a 2-storey house. Buying in the village? An EICR before you exchange tells you what you're taking on.

Asked in Borrowash

The wiring in our Borrowash loft looks old and grey. Is it rubber cable?

Probably not. Grey or white PVC cable has been used since the 1960s and is often still sound. Old rubber cable is usually black, with a cracked or crumbly outer layer, and sometimes a cloth covering. If you're not sure, send us a photo. We can tell you what you have.

Can you run power to a summer house at the bottom of our Borrowash garden?

Yes. We use an armoured cable, buried at a safe depth or fixed along a wall, with RCD protection at the house end. The summer house gets its own small board if it needs more than a couple of sockets and a light. We check the house board can take the extra load first.

JJS came to the rescue this evening for a lovely elderly couple that needed a little extra help. Josh came along and made sure everything was safe and gave them reassurance they needed.

Really impressed with Josh. I arranged to get a quote for a new consumer unit and he turned up on time to do this and it was sent quickly. Once I approved the quote which was very reasonable he spent most of the day installing it…

Knowledgeable, diligent and friendly. Josh did a great job fitting a new light for me and kept me informed of what he was doing and what was required. Thank you, very happy with the service.
