Ockbrook's Moravian settlement was founded in 1750 and is one of only 3 left in the country. Its buildings are Georgian red brick with slate roofs, including the chapel of 1751 to 1752 and houses on The Settlement dated from 1752 to 1826. It has had its own conservation area since 1978, and the old village has a second. Derby families built villas here in the early 1800s. Between 1951 and 1971 the parish nearly doubled in population, with a lot of new housing. Those 1950s and 60s homes are now on their first or second board.
