Spondon still feels like a village, with its old centre around St Werburgh's Church and post-war housing spread out from it. A lot of those houses still have their original board, so consumer unit upgrades and EICRs are the regular jobs. In the conservation area the work is slower and more careful, with cable routes planned around old walls. We also fit EV chargers, and rewire where testing shows the wiring has had its day.

Homes in Spondon

Spondon is a Domesday village that became heavily industrial in the 19th and 20th centuries, with British Celanese at the bottom of the hill. The A52 now separates the homes on the hilltop from the industrial area. The old centre has been a conservation area since 1975, extended in 1986, with 18th-century houses such as The Homestead on Sitwell Street, dated 1740, and older buildings like The Grange on Park Road. Suburban housing surrounds it. Solid walls in the old village make cable runs harder, and an Article 4 direction restricts some outside changes.

Spondon in numbers

From the 2021 Census, for the 3,122 households in the streets around Spondon.

  • 40%of households own their home outright (England: 33%). If you’ve lived somewhere for years and never had the wiring tested, an EICR tells you where it stands. Ours start at £150 plus VAT. EICRs and fuse boxes
  • 34%of households have two or more cars or vans (England: 35%). Fitting a home charger you’ve bought yourself costs £450 plus VAT, and one well-placed charger can serve both sides of a drive. EV chargers

Covering Spondon and nearby

We cover all of Spondon in DE21, with Borrowash and Ockbrook just beyond. If your fuse board still has rewireable fuses or no RCD, get it looked at before a new kitchen, shower or EV charger goes in. We test the existing circuits first so the price doesn't change on the day.

Asked in Spondon

Our cottage in Spondon village has thick solid walls. How do you get new cables in?

Mostly through floors and ceilings, dropping down inside the walls only where we have to. Where chasing would damage old plaster, neat surface trunking is sometimes the better choice. We show you the options room by room and you decide what you're happy with.

We're buying a post-war house in Spondon. Is it worth having the wiring checked first?

Yes. An EICR before you exchange tells you what you are taking on, and the price of any work can go into your negotiation. A house this age might need nothing, a new board or a rewire. You'll get a plain explanation alongside the report.

I spoke to somebody on the phone and they were great at providing me with information and really helpful. I then booked in with them the next day to fix a tumble dryer plug and they came out within 4 hours and were extremely fast and very friendly. Thankyou for all your help. Great price too

Josh and his team have done a brilliant job installing electrics into our summer house and we are really pleased with their work. The work was done to an extremely high standard and they worked really hard all day in sweltering heat. They were also very professional. We would 100% recommend them.

Josh has been world class from the start. Clear communication, amazing worth ethic to stay on schedule (lads even working on Saturday), trustworthy, reliable, and very detailed. He was happy to respond rapidly to specific technical requests and last minute changes in spec. His flexibility is what set's him apart for me. We had multiple phases to the job, and he was happy to work along with my schedule, and honour prices as agreed. Whenever I have any electrical questions, I send for Josh. Thanks so much for the great work guys!

Josh and James from JJS Electrical Solutions did a full rewire of our house and we honestly couldn’t fault them. They were friendly, easy to deal with, and explained everything clearly along the way. They turned up when they said they would, worked really hard, and the standard of their work was spot on. Even with a big job like a full rewire, they kept disruption to a minimum and always cleaned up after themselves. Really happy with the end result and would definitely recommend Josh and James to anyone needing electrical work done.
