In 1851 Weston-on-Trent had just over 70 houses. When the railway came through in 1873 it took down some of them, and 6 workmen's houses were built. Thatched cottages were lost to fires started by sparks from the engines. Piped water and a sewer arrived in 1937, along with 10 council houses that got hot and cold water. Old Gate Avenue was built on Old Gate Farm land in the 1960s and 70s. Weston Hall, begun around 1633, is Grade II* listed. The 1930s houses may well have been rewired, but it is worth checking.
