Good to know

What is colour temperature?

It's how warm or cool white light looks, measured in kelvin (K). Around 2700K is a warm, yellowish white, 3000K a soft white and 4000K a cooler, bluer white. Lamps with the same rating from different makers can still look slightly different, which is why matching them matters in a garden where you see them side by side.

Can lighting be added to a garden that's already landscaped?

Yes, with careful planning. Cable routes follow edges, borders and paths so that as little as possible is dug up, and the fittings are placed to suit the planting that's already there.

Do outdoor lighting circuits need special protection?

Yes. Outdoor circuits need RCD protection, cables suited to being outside or buried, and fittings rated for the weather. A new outdoor circuit is notifiable under Part P, so it's certified when it's done.
