Good to know
Can I get a longer lead on a tethered charger?
Often, yes. Many home chargers come with a 5m tethered lead as standard, and several makes offer a longer one as an option. If your cars park on both sides of the drive, check the lead length before you order the charger.
Why fit a separate consumer unit for an EV charger?
A charger is a big, long-running load that needs its own circuit and the right protection. If the board indoors is old, full or a long way from the meter, a small dedicated unit beside the meter can supply the charger on its own without touching the older wiring.
Can you fit a charger I've bought myself?
Yes. Our price to fit a charger you've supplied is £450 plus VAT. The makes we prefer to fit are Hypervolt, Ohme and Sync Energy.
Will my fuse box need upgrading for a charger?
Not always. The main fuse, the board and the earthing all need checking first. Sometimes the existing board is fine, sometimes a small separate unit is the neater answer, and occasionally the supply itself needs work from the network operator first.
