The brief

This Chaddesden property was fully rewired as part of its renovation, completed in March 2026. Sockets and switches were finished in brushed chrome, with spotlights fitted throughout the house.

  • Full rewire with a brushed chrome finish
  • Spotlights installed throughout the property
  • Power run to the garage and a 32A supply for a hot tub
The challengeAfter the rewire and renovation were finished, the customer decided to add festoon lighting in the garden. Wiring in a conventional switch at that stage would have meant cutting into freshly decorated walls.
  • Garden festoon lighting requested as an afterthought
  • The interior had only just been renovated
  • A wired switch would have meant damaging the new finishes
How we solved itWe used a kinetic wireless switch to control the festoon lighting. It needs no cable run to the switch, so the lights can be controlled from indoors with no damage to the newly renovated interior.
  • Kinetic wireless switch fitted to control the festoon lighting
  • No cable run needed to the switch
  • No damage to the recently renovated interior

Good to know

Why rewire during a renovation rather than after?

Because the floors are up and the walls are bare. Cables can go where they need to, and the chasing and making good happen once, before anyone plasters or decorates. Rewiring a finished house means lifting floors and cutting into new walls. Our rewire price doesn't include plastering or making good, so it's worth lining your plasterer up for straight after.

Why does a hot tub need its own 32A supply?

A hard-wired hot tub runs a heater and pumps that draw far more than a 13A plug can safely supply for hours at a time. It gets its own circuit from the consumer unit, sized to the manufacturer's rating (often 32A), with RCD protection and an isolator switch nearby so it can be turned off safely for cleaning and maintenance.

What is a kinetic wireless switch?

A light switch that needs no wiring and no batteries. Pressing it generates a tiny burst of energy that sends a radio signal to a receiver wired in at the light. That makes it handy wherever running a cable to a switch would mean cutting into finished walls.

Can you run power to a garage or garden room?

Yes. It's a new circuit from the consumer unit, run on armoured cable either buried or fixed along a wall, with its own protection at the far end. A new circuit is notifiable under Part P, so you get a certificate for it.
