Kirk Hallam was a small farming parish of about 110 people in 1931 and became part of Ilkeston in 1934. In the 1950s Ilkeston Corporation and Stanton and Staveley built council housing around St Norbert Drive, and in the 1960s and 70s a mix of council and private homes went up around Godfrey Drive.
