Stanley grew as a mining village, and its older terraces and cottages are still part of its character alongside St Andrew's church and the houses added later. Many of these older homes have been updated piece by piece, so the wiring can be a mixture of ages. We find out what you have, replace boards that lack RCD protection, rewire where the cable is past its best and install chargers on drives. A written quote comes first, before any work starts.

Homes in Stanley
Stanley was a farming village that turned to coal and brickmaking by the late 1800s. A drift mine opened in 1890 and the pit closed fully in 1961. Mining subsidence badly damaged property here in the 1920s. The parish has only 3 listed buildings, among them Church Cottage, with a cruck-framed core from 1415 and a roof that is partly thatched. Stanley Common's church dates from 1913. In houses that have been modernised in stages, we look at the whole installation rather than just the part you want changed.

Asked in Stanley
Our Stanley house has had movement cracks repaired over the years. Can that affect the wiring?
It can. Movement can stretch or crush cables buried in walls and loosen connections at sockets and switches. An insulation test shows whether any circuit has been damaged. If one has, we replace that run rather than the whole house.
We've bought a semi in Stanley Common with sockets added in odd places. What should we do?
Get an EICR first. Sockets in odd places often mean extensions to the original circuits, sometimes done without proper protection. The report shows which circuits each socket is on and whether any are overloaded or unsafe. Then you can decide what to keep.
